Day Trips from Hurghada

Hurghada is well-placed for day trips in several directions.

Giftun Island is the most popular, a short boat ride offshore to uninhabited beaches and the best snorkeling in the area. Most dive centers and tour operators run morning departures.

Luxor is 4 hours by road across the Eastern Desert — a long but worthwhile day trip to the Valley of the Kings, Karnak temple, and the other monuments of ancient Thebes. Organized tours run from most hotels; private taxis can also be arranged.

Safaga, 53 km south, is worth a half-day visit for its calmer pace and excellent dive sites. The drive along the coast road is scenic.

Sharm el-Sheikh is accessible by fast ferry (around 1.5 hours), though the crossing is weather-dependent. Most visitors use it as a standalone destination rather than a day trip, but the option exists.

Organized tours to Cairo (overnight), Petra, and the Sinai monasteries are sold throughout town. These multi-day trips are better value through reputable operators booked in advance than from street touts.
