Port Said is about 220 km northeast of Cairo. The fastest option by road is via the Ismailia Desert Road, which takes about two and a half hours. Regular buses and service taxis run this route from Cairo's Turgoman bus terminal; the journey takes two to three hours depending on traffic and the number of stops.
There is no longer a passenger train service to Port Said — the line that once connected the city to Ismailia and Cairo no longer carries passengers. Cruise ships dock at the city's passenger terminal, and Port Said is a common first stop on Eastern Mediterranean itineraries.
