Port Said's main attraction is itself — a working canal city with a lively waterfront, 19th-century European architecture, and the spectacle of enormous ships passing close to shore. The military museum, the lighthouse, the old European quarter, and the free-trade shopping streets are the principal draws. It is not a city with many conventional tourist sights, but it has a great deal of character for those prepared to walk and look.
