By air: The nearest airport is Hurghada International (HRG), about 53 km north. Most international visitors fly into Hurghada and travel down by road. A taxi or private transfer from the airport takes around 45–60 minutes depending on traffic.
By road from Hurghada: Shared minibuses (microbuses) run frequently between Hurghada and Safaga, leaving from near the main market area. The fare is minimal and the journey takes around an hour. Taxis are faster and more flexible; agree on a price before getting in. The road south hugs the coast and is straightforward.
By ferry to/from Saudi Arabia: Safaga's main ferry terminal connects Egypt with Duba in Saudi Arabia. The crossing takes 8–10 hours overnight, with boats running most nights. Tickets must be purchased in advance at the port office — you cannot buy them online or on the day of departure. The process involves significant waiting time for customs and vehicle loading; travellers taking vehicles should allow most of a day at the terminal. The ferry is heavily used by Egyptian workers in Saudi Arabia and by trucks, so book ahead during peak periods.
