Safaga's desert climate means reliable sunshine year-round, but the best time to visit depends entirely on what you're there for.
Diving: The reefs are diveable in every month. Winter (November–March) brings the mildest air temperatures — around 22–25°C — and good visibility, making it the most comfortable season for extended days on the water. Water temperatures drop to around 22°C in winter, so a 5mm wetsuit is worth packing.
Windsurfing and kitesurfing: The opposite season is better. May through October delivers the most consistent wind, with afternoon gusts regularly hitting 25–30 knots in July and August. Summer air temperatures are fierce — regularly above 38°C — but out on the water it's manageable. Serious wind riders plan around the summer peak.
General tourism: October, November, March, and April offer the best of both worlds: reasonable wind for kiting, comfortable diving conditions, and air temperatures that won't knock you flat. These shoulder months are the busiest periods for resorts around Soma Bay.
Safaga has almost no rainfall — around 9mm per year total — so weather cancellations are virtually unknown. The main disruptive event is the khamsin, the seasonal desert wind that blows in spring (roughly March–May), sometimes reducing visibility and stirring up the sea for a day or two at a time.
