The Ezana Stone stands in a small open area between the stelae field and the cathedral complex, easily missed but significant. It is a granite stele inscribed in three scripts with a royal proclamation from King Ezana — a text that records his military victories and his acknowledgement of the Christian God, marking Ethiopia's official conversion to Christianity in the 4th century.
The parallel text in three scripts has been invaluable to scholars deciphering ancient Aksumite inscriptions. The stone is now protected by a shelter and fence but remains outdoors and in reasonable condition. It is viewable in a few minutes on any circuit of the central archaeological zone.
