Biqilti Jimma Cafe is one of the city's better-known coffee houses, recommended for visitors who want to experience the Ethiopian coffee ceremony done properly rather than perfunctorily. The ceremony here — roasting the green beans, grinding them by hand, brewing in the clay jebena, and serving in three rounds — unfolds at its own pace and is not rushed for the benefit of anyone in a hurry.
The setting is relaxed, the coffee is excellent (you are, after all, in one of the world's great coffee regions), and the accompanying popcorn and incense add to the atmosphere. If you have not sat through a proper Ethiopian coffee ceremony before, Jimma is the right place to do it for the first time.
