Jimma's food scene is anchored in Ethiopian staples — injera with various wats and tibs — but the coffee, naturally, is exceptional. The Central Jimma Hotel restaurant is the reliable choice for a full Ethiopian spread, and Minta is popular with university students and locals for grilled meat and local dishes. The coffee ceremony is taken seriously here in a way it sometimes isn't in tourist-heavy cities: sitting through a proper three-round ceremony — with the popcorn, the incense, and the small cups — is one of the better things you can do in Jimma.
