La Sablière is the closest beach to the city centre, on the northern edge of town near the airport. The sand is dark, the swimming is poor — currents are unreliable and the water is rarely clear — but at sunset it fills up with families and joggers, and the row of grilled-fish stands along the road is a reasonable spot for an early-evening meal.
