Eating Out

Libreville has the best restaurant scene in Gabon, though that is a low bar. French cuisine dominates the upscale end, while street food and local joints serve Gabonese staples at more reasonable prices.

Le Pescadou on Rue Lafond is one of the city's top seafood restaurants. The fish is fresh and the preparation is French-influenced. Not cheap, but reliable.

La Dorade at the Hotel Alize offers a good mix of Gabonese and French dishes in a comfortable setting. A solid choice if you want to try local cuisine in an accessible format.

La Paillote on Boulevard de l'Independance serves well-prepared seafood and grilled meats with a view of the waterfront. Popular with expats and visiting business travelers.

For more affordable eating, head to the area around Marche du Mont-Bouet, where street vendors sell brochettes (grilled meat skewers), fried plantains, and poulet nyembwe. The food is good, the portions are generous, and a full meal costs a fraction of what you would pay in the sit-down restaurants.

Lebanese restaurants are scattered around the city and offer some of the best value for a proper sit-down meal, with shawarma, grills, and mezze widely available.
