Shopping

Libreville's shopping divides cleanly. The big air-conditioned French-style supermarkets — Mbolo, Géant Casino — stock European and Lebanese groceries at prices that will alarm anyone who has just come from Cameroon. The markets, led by Mont-Bouet, sell everything else: fabric, fresh food, traditional medicines, bushmeat, electronics, and the cheapest cooked food in town.

For souvenirs, the artisan market opposite the Cathedral is the easiest single stop for masks, carvings, Punu figurines, and basketwork. Bargain.
