Butre beach lies on the ocean side of the Butre River and is one of the quieter stretches of sand on Ghana's Western Region coast. To get there from the village you take a short dugout canoe ride across the river — a small adventure that keeps the beach from feeling like it belongs to anywhere in particular.
The beach is long, palm-fringed, and usually empty. The surf can be strong, so swim with caution. Ellis Hideout sits right on the beach and is the only place to get food and accommodation on this side of the river.
