Busua is the nearest beach resort, about 14km east along the coast road. It's larger and more developed than Butre — more guesthouses, more people, surf lessons and beach bars — and makes a good half-day outing by shared taxi from the Butre junction.
Dixcove is a few kilometres west, a fishing town with its own fort (Fort Metal Cross, 1691) and an active harbour. It's less visited than Elmina or Cape Coast and has an authentic, workaday feel. The fort is in better condition than Batenstein and can be entered.
Cape Three Points — the southernmost tip of Ghana — lies about 30km west of Butre. The cape itself is a protected forest reserve with good birdwatching and a lighthouse, and it's the geographical point where the prime meridian meets the equatorial zone of West Africa. Getting there requires a charter taxi or a willing tuk-tuk driver from Agona Nkwanta.
