The headline sight is Fort Batenstein, the 1652 Dutch ruin on the hill above the village. Beyond that, Butre is a place to slow down: cross the river by dugout canoe, wander the village in the early morning when the fishing boats return, and walk a stretch of beach you will likely have to yourself.
