A small British signalling fort built in 1837 on Smith's Hill, west of Cape Coast Castle. It was used as a lookout post to watch for ships approaching the coast and to communicate with the larger forts along the shore. The structure is modest — square plan, low walls, a few cannons — and is now half-overgrown, but the hilltop position gives another good view over the town and the bay.
It is a 20-minute uphill walk from the castle. Pair with Fort William Lighthouse for an afternoon of fort-hopping and views.
