The Adjamé market in northern Abidjan is the city's largest and most disorienting trading ground — a vast informal market that spills across streets, arcades, and improvised stalls selling fabric, household goods, food, electronics, clothing, and everything in between. It serves as a distribution hub for traders from across Ivory Coast and the wider region.
For visitors it is thrilling and overwhelming in equal measure. Keep valuables secure, wear comfortable shoes for the uneven ground, and be prepared to be the centre of considerable attention. The textile section in particular — bolts of batik, wax-print fabric, and imported cloth from across West Africa — is worth the trip. Bargaining is standard throughout.
