La Pyramide is a 1973 brutalist office building in Le Plateau that looks exactly as its name suggests — a stepped pyramid of concrete and glass rising above the business district. Designed by Rinaldo Olivieri, it was built during Ivory Coast's boom years as a statement of modernist confidence and remains one of the most recognizable buildings on the Abidjan skyline.
The building houses government offices and is not open to the public, but it is visible from most of Le Plateau and worth a look as a document of the optimistic urban ambitions of post-independence Ivory Coast. Together with the nearby skyscrapers and the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Plaza, it defines the character of the central district.
