By Air
The main entry point is Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport in Abidjan (IATA: ABJ), located about 16 km southeast of the city centre. It is well connected to Paris, Brussels, Casablanca, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Dubai, and several other West African capitals. Air France, Ethiopian Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, and Turkish Airlines are among the carriers with regular service. Flight time from Paris is roughly 6 hours; from New York around 11 hours with a connection.
A second airport at Yamoussoukro handles some regional traffic but is not a practical international entry point for most travellers.
Visas
Most nationalities need a visa. The e-visa is the easiest option: apply online through the official SNEDAI portal before you travel (snedai.com/e-visa). It is issued within 48 hours, valid for 90 days, and must be used on arrival at Abidjan airport. If you plan to enter overland, you will need to arrange a paper visa from the Ivorian embassy in advance, as e-visas are only accepted at the Abidjan airport.
Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory — you must show your certificate on arrival.
By Road
Land borders connect to Ghana in the east, Burkina Faso and Mali in the north, and Guinea and Liberia in the west. Road quality varies considerably; the main corridors to Ghana and Burkina Faso are generally passable. Border procedures can be slow and crossings should ideally be done in daylight. Check current conditions before heading to the Liberian or Guinean borders.
By Rail
The historic Abidjan–Ouagadougou rail line, once one of West Africa's great train journeys, has been suspended for years due to track deterioration. Do not count on it.
