Kit Mikayi is a dramatic pile of granite boulders about 30 kilometres west of Kisumu, sacred in Luo tradition and still visited for prayer, ritual, and storytelling. The name is usually translated as "stone of the first wife", and local guides tell several versions of the legend attached to it.
The rocks are also a fine viewpoint over the surrounding farms and low hills. Wear shoes with grip if you plan to climb around the formation, and take a guide from the community at the entrance; the stories are the point as much as the geology.
