Getting There

Buchanan is about 130 km southeast of Monrovia on a road that has been mostly rebuilt and tarred in recent years. Shared taxis leave from the Red Light junction in Monrovia throughout the morning; the trip takes around three hours depending on conditions. Private hire is also possible from any of the Monrovia hotels for considerably more money.

Onward travel further south down the coast — towards Greenville or Harper — is much rougher. The road quickly deteriorates beyond Buchanan, and in the rainy season (May to October) it is often impassable for ordinary vehicles. Plan for an early start and consider hiring a 4x4 with driver.
