The fastest route in is from Blantyre, 60 kilometres south on the M3 road — about 90 minutes by car or minibus. Minibuses leave Blantyre's Limbe and Wenela ranks throughout the day; the road is tarred, generally in good condition, and there is no shortage of traffic. Coming from the lake or Lilongwe, the easiest route is via Blantyre.
Zomba has a small airport on the outskirts but there are no scheduled passenger flights; the nearest commercial airport is at Blantyre. The bus rank in central Zomba serves minibuses to all major destinations in southern Malawi.
