Compact north-coast Mauritius beach village with calm swimming between Grand Baie and Cap Malheureux.
Pereybere is a compact beach village on the north coast of Mauritius, squeezed between busy Grand Baie and quieter Cap Malheureux. It is not remote or undiscovered, but it gets the balance right: a proper public beach, small restaurants and snack counters, and enough village life to keep it from feeling like a resort compound.
The main draw is Pereybere Public Beach, a small arc of white sand with clear, calm water. It is excellent for swimming and easy for families, though it can feel crowded on weekends and holidays. Walk north and the coast becomes rockier and quieter toward Bain Boeuf Public Beach, with views across to Coin de Mire.
Pereybere works well if you want the north-coast conveniences without sleeping in the middle of Grand Baie's nightlife strip. You can be in Grand Baie in a few minutes by bus or taxi, reach the red-roofed church at Cap Malheureux just as quickly, and still come back to a beach that feels local in the early morning.

Beaches
Pereybere's beach scene is compact but very usable. Pereybere Public Beach is the obvious choice for swimming: sandy, sheltered, and close to food stalls. It is small, so arrive early if you want shade or a quieter patch of sand.
For more space, walk or drive north to Bain Boeuf Public Beach. It is less polished and not as convenient for a full beach day, but the views toward Coin de Mire are excellent and the pace is calmer.

Eating Out
Pereybere is better for casual eating than destination dining. Around the public beach you will find snack counters, rotis, fried noodles, gateaux piment, and simple seafood grills aimed at beachgoers rather than hotel guests.
For a wider choice, head into nearby Grand Baie, where restaurants cover everything from Mauritian curries to European-style cafes. The advantage of eating in Pereybere is the slower pace: dinner near the beach, then a short walk home.

Getting There
Pereybere is on the north-coast road between Grand Baie and Cap Malheureux. Buses from Port Louis and Grand Baie run along this corridor during the day, though taxis are easier if you are carrying beach gear or arriving after dark.
Driving from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport usually takes around an hour and a half, longer if traffic is heavy near Port Louis. Once you are in the north, the distances are short: Grand Baie is only a few minutes away by taxi or local bus.
