Eating Out in Chefchaouen

Chaouen's restaurants cluster around Plaza Uta el-Hammam and along the main medina lanes. The cuisine is northern Moroccan: tagines, couscous, harira soup, and msemen flatbreads. Seafood comes up from the coast — grilled sardines appear often. Fresh mountain trout is a local specialty worth seeking out — the Rif rivers are cold and clear, and the fish is usually pan-fried simply with herbs. Look for it at restaurants near Ras el Maa spring.
