Jebel al-Kalaa is the mountain that turns Chefchaouen from a blue-lane postcard into a Rif hiking base. The route climbs above the medina toward a rough summit landscape, trading painted walls for scrub, rock, and increasingly wide views.
Do not treat it as a casual city stroll. The way can be steep, loose, and confusing in poor weather, so start early, carry water, and consider local advice or a guide if you are unsure of the route. On a clear day the reward is simple: Chefchaouen below, mountains around you, and far fewer people than in the old town lanes.
