Bars and Cafes

Beira's nightlife has always been outdoor and informal. Most spots are open-air affairs — think plastic tables, cold Manica beer, grilled chicken, and music loud enough to spill across the street. The mix of Mozambican, Zimbabwean, and international port workers gives evenings an unusually cosmopolitan feel for a city of this size.

Service runs at an unhurried pace; a few words in Portuguese and genuine patience go a long way. The crowd is generally friendly toward foreigners, and English is spoken more widely here than in most Mozambican cities. Going out in a group is the sensible approach after dark.
