The best beaches are north of the city around N'Gor and the Almadies — small coves with fishing pirogues pulled up on the sand. N'Gor Island, a short canoe ride off the village, has the cleanest water and some snorkelling. The long beach at Yoff is good for walking but check locally before swimming — undertows here have caught people out. Further south, the beaches at Mbour and Saly are a longer run out of town but less busy.
