Corniche Ouest

Coastal road and walkway along the Atlantic side of the peninsula

The Corniche Ouest is the long oceanfront drive that runs from the southern tip of the Plateau up the west side of the peninsula, ending near Les Mamelles. The view from a car is one thing, but the better experience is on foot or by bicycle along the wide pedestrian and cycle paths that line most of it.

The Corniche comes alive in the early morning and the cool of the late afternoon: joggers, organised gym classes, families with strollers, surfers heading down to the breaks below. Several rocky lookouts have benches and informal cafes serving coffee and grilled corn. The whole stretch has been progressively reclaimed and improved since the 2010s and now ranks as one of the city's most usable public spaces.
