La Calebasse

Beachfront Senegalese restaurant on Pointe des Almadies, generous plates

La Calebasse sits on the rocks at Pointe des Almadies, a short walk from the westernmost point marker — a calm Senegalese restaurant of the sort that does one thing well and slowly. The big plates of thieboudienne and yassa poulet come out steaming and unrushed; the grilled fish straight from the morning's catch is consistently good.

The setting is the bonus: a thatched terrace looking out over the surf break and out to N'Gor Island. Sunset is the right time to come. Service is unhurried, the kitchen is too, and the place is happiest with diners who have all evening.
