Deep-Sea Fishing

Deep-sea fishing is one of the best activities available from Saly, and the offshore waters genuinely deliver. The Canary Current creates exceptional conditions for pelagic species, and organised charters run from the beach or from nearby Mbour. A typical day trip goes 30 to 50 kilometres offshore and targets blue marlin, Atlantic sailfish, barracuda, wahoo, and dorado.

Several operators run boats out of Saly and Mbour — ask at your hotel or at the beach. Trips typically run from dawn to mid-afternoon and include equipment and a guide. Prices vary but expect to pay per boat rather than per person; grouping with other guests through the hotel is the easiest way to organise a trip. Smaller half-day options targeting inshore species such as grouper and snapper are also available.

A story
The waters off the Petite Côte are among the most productive fishing grounds in West Africa, fed by the cold Canary Current upwelling. Charter boats out of Saly regularly land blue marlin, sailfish, wahoo, and dorado — catches that would be exceptional in the Mediterranean are routine here.
