A small protected area of woodland on the island's interior where the Seychelles black paradise flycatcher — once feared extinct — has its last significant stronghold. Population estimates now put the number at several hundred, largely thanks to protection of this habitat. A short trail runs through the reserve; early morning gives the best chance of seeing the birds active.
The male flycatcher is hard to miss: jet black with a long, rippling tail and an electric blue eye-ring. The female is a warm chestnut brown. Both are vocal and reasonably confiding once you know where to look.
