Woodstock Street Art Grid

Dense cluster of murals on side streets off Albert Road, started in 2011

The blocks of side streets running off Albert Road, around Side Street Studios and the Woodstock Exchange, hold the densest concentration of murals in the neighbourhood — often referred to informally as "I Art Woodstock" by local guides and tour operators. The trail began in 2011 with a collaborative project between street artists and Adidas Originals, and has been added to steadily since by local and international artists, including pieces such as Nardstar's "Raised by Wolves" and Freddy Sam's Freedom Day mural.

Walls here are repainted and replaced often enough that the area rewards repeat visits — what you see one year may be gone the next. Several Cape Town tour operators run guided street art walks through this grid, usually starting at the Woodstock Exchange, but it's just as easy to wander it on your own on a weekday morning when the area is quiet and the light on Lower Main Road and Albert Road's side streets is best for photos.
