Durban Harbour is the largest and busiest port in Africa, the engine behind the city's economy and visible from almost any high vantage point in town. The harbour mouth is squeezed between the Bluff and the Point, and watching the container ships ease through is one of the city's unexpected pleasures.
For visitors, the most accessible side is Wilson's Wharf, a small dockside strip on the Victoria Embankment with restaurants, bars and a couple of theatres. From here, Isle of Capri and other operators run hour-long harbour cruises that loop around Salisbury Island and the container terminals — surprisingly interesting for what it is.
