Eating Out

Durban eats well, and cheaply. The city's signature is its Indian food — Durban-style curries are hotter and more deeply spiced than most South African cooking, and bunny chow, a hollowed-out loaf filled with curry, was invented here and is still sold from corner shops for the price of a coffee. Beyond the curry houses of Grey Street, Florida Road in Morningside is the main eating-out strip, with everything from sushi to South African steakhouses. The beachfront has cheaper, more touristy options, and seafood — especially prawns — is excellent everywhere.
