Getting Around

A car is the easy choice in Durban — distances are long, public transport is patchy, and parking is generally available at the beachfront, the malls and Florida Road. All the major rental agencies operate at the airport.

Within the central area, Uber and Bolt are reliable and cheap by Western standards. The People Mover bus runs a tourist-friendly loop between the beachfront, the City Hall and uShaka for a small flat fare. Minibus taxis dominate longer routes, are very cheap, and are best left to those who know the system. Avoid walking the inner CBD streets after dark or anywhere outside Morningside and the beachfront alone at night.
