Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve protects a pocket of coastal forest and grassland on Durban's southwestern side. It is close enough to the city for a half-day escape, yet it gives a very different rhythm from the beachfront, malls, and busy roads.
Walking trails are the main reason to come, with chances to see birds, zebra, and small antelope depending on conditions. It is a practical nature stop for travellers who do not have time to push farther into KwaZulu-Natal's bigger reserves.
