Moses Mabhida Stadium

World Cup stadium with cable car and viewing platform on the arch

Durban's signature post-2010 building, a 70,000-seat stadium spanned by an enormous white arch that is the most visible structure in the city. The arch is climbable: a SkyCar runs to a viewing platform 106 metres above the pitch, with panoramic views from the Berea to the harbour and the Indian Ocean. The fit can take the 550-step "Adventure Walk"; the very brave can bungee-jump from the platform — at 80 metres the world's longest swinging bungee.

The stadium hosts football, rugby and concerts. Even if there is no event on, the SkyCar runs daily and the surrounding People's Park is good for a walk. Combine with a visit to the Suncoast Casino across the road on the beachfront.

A story
The 106-metre arch was designed to suggest the Y of the South African flag — black supporters of two colours rising and uniting. You can either climb 550 steps to the top or take the SkyCar; brave visitors then bungee-jump from the centre.
