Old Court House Museum

Durban's oldest building, now a small local-history museum

Address Aliwal Street

The Old Court House, built in 1866, is the oldest surviving building in Durban — a low colonnaded sandstone block that served as the city's first courthouse, then town hall, before being repurposed in the 1980s as a small local-history museum.

Exhibits focus on early colonial Durban, with reconstructed Victorian rooms, photographs of the original Point and harbour, and material on the Zulu and Voortrekker wars. The building is more interesting than the displays. Free, weekday hours only.
