George Museum
A story
The George Museum is housed in the old drostdy (magistrate's office) built in 1811, one of the few buildings in George that predates the Victorian era. The collection is focused on the history of the Southern Cape — from the Khoikhoi and San peoples who inhabited the region before European settlement, through the British colonial period and the development of the Garden Route. A dedicated section covers the history of the timber industry, which shaped the landscape and economy of the Outeniqua Mountains.
