Rosebank

Rosebank sits between Sandton and the CBD and has a more relaxed, neighbourhood feel than either. The Walk in Rosebank precinct is a well-designed open-air strip with galleries, independent restaurants, and coffee shops — a decent place to spend an afternoon without a specific agenda. The Zone @ Rosebank has a good cinema and several decent bars.

The real draw is the Sunday morning African crafts market at the Rosebank Mall rooftop car park. It runs from about 9am and draws vendors from across southern Africa selling beadwork, carvings, textiles, batik, and ceramics. It is not the cheapest place to buy crafts — vendors here know their customers have money — but the quality is generally good and the selection is the best in the city. The Gautrain has a Rosebank station, making it easy to get to from both the airport and Sandton.
