Eating Out

Lomé's food scene is unpretentious and full of flavour. Street-side brochette stands grill spiced lamb and chicken over charcoal all day long, and cheap restaurants along Rue du Commerce serve shawarma, falafel, and generous sandwiches. For something more formal, a handful of French-influenced restaurants and Chinese places cater to the expat crowd. The best eating in Lomé, though, happens at the roadside — grilled fish with piment, fufu with groundnut soup, and cold bottles of Bière Béninoise to wash it all down.
