Lomé sits on the Gulf of Guinea coast and is hot and humid year-round. The most pleasant months are November to February, when the harmattan brings a few weeks of dry, slightly hazy air, daytime highs in the low 30s and cool nights. March to May is hot and increasingly humid; June and July are the main rainy season, with afternoon downpours that flood the unpaved streets but rarely last long.
The biggest event of the year is the Festival Filbleu in March, the most important African film festival in the country. Independence Day on 27 April brings parades on Place de l'Indépendance. Epé Ekpé, the traditional Guin new year, is celebrated in Aného in early September and is worth a day trip from Lomé.
