The Musée National sits on Place de l'Indépendance, in the wing of the Maison du RPT — the old single-party headquarters of the Eyadéma years. It is small by international standards but useful: a single floor of well-displayed ethnographic objects from each of Togo's main cultural groups, including Ewe masks, Kabiyè iron work, Bassar pottery and a number of pre-colonial royal regalia.
The historical rooms cover the German colonial period (1884–1914), the French mandate, and the Eyadéma era with a level of pluralism that surprises some visitors. Captions are in French. A guide is included with the entry fee and is worth taking — most of the staff have decades of experience with the collection and will tell you stories the labels don't. Allow 90 minutes.
