The Temple of Juno Caelestis stands on the western edge of the city, isolated from the main forum complex. The deity was a Romanised version of the Phoenician Tanit, and the temple was built around AD 222–235 under Emperor Severus Alexander.
Its most distinctive feature is the semi-circular colonnade that wraps around the cella — an architectural arrangement found nowhere else at Dougga, and rare in the wider Roman world. A handful of columns still stand and the ground plan is clearly readable. The walk out from the centre takes about ten minutes and the view back toward the Capitol is worth the effort.
