The town centre is small enough to cover on foot. Ksar Hadada is about 1km from the centre and reachable on foot in around 15 minutes, or by local taxi. The cliff sanctuary is a short walk uphill from the town.
For the surrounding ksour landscape, a hire car or 4WD is useful. The back roads between settlements are generally passable but a higher-clearance vehicle gives more flexibility. Louages (shared taxis) run between Tataouine, Ghomrassen, and Medenine on a regular basis and are the standard way to move between towns in the region without your own transport. They leave when full from the main square or transport hub.
