Ksar Hadada

Ksar Hadada is one of the best-preserved examples of Berber ksar architecture in the Tataouine region. The structure follows the traditional form: stone-vaulted ghorfas (storage chambers) stacked in tiers around a central courtyard, originally built to store grain and olive oil for the surrounding community. The vaulted chambers and rough stone construction give a strong sense of how these buildings worked as both fortified storehouses and communal infrastructure.

The ksar is also known as the slave quarters of Mos Espa in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. It is less visited and less commercialised than Matmata, and is arguably more interesting for it — the architecture has not been overlaid with souvenir stalls and cosplay. The Star Wars connection brings some visitors, but the building stands on its own as a piece of vernacular architecture.

At various points the site has been used as a small hotel. The current status is uncertain — check locally before planning an overnight stay. The site itself is accessible from the road just outside Ghomrassen.
