Dar Essid Museum

Dar Essid is a traditional Sousse townhouse — a 10th-century merchant palace in the heart of the Medina — that has been restored and opened as a museum. The building is a textbook example of Arab-Islamic domestic architecture: plain facade, ornate interior, rooms arranged around a central courtyard. The upper floors have been furnished to recreate the look of a prosperous 19th-century household.

The museum's rooftop terrace offers one of the best views of the Medina from street level — looking over the tightly packed rooftops toward the Ribat and the sea. It is often less visited than the main sites, which makes it a relatively peaceful stop in an otherwise busy part of the old town.
