The Sihanoukville Autonomous Port is Cambodia's only deep-water international port and the economic engine that gave the city its modern existence. It is not really a tourist sight, but the port-side promenade gives a good view of the cranes, the cargo ships, and the long, busy fishing fleet that works out of the inner harbour.
The fishing port at the south end of the harbour is more rewarding for the curious — boats unload through the afternoon and the dockside market sells fish, prawns and squid straight off the deck. Best early morning or late afternoon.
