Sihanoukville's beaches stretch along the western coast of the headland, each with a different feel. Ochheuteal Beach is the most developed, with a long strip of seafood restaurants and beach bars — the southern end is quieter. Sokha Beach is wide and sandy, partly controlled by the Sokha resort but with public access at the southern end where the snorkelling is decent. Otres Beach, further south, is the backpacker favourite and has a more laid-back atmosphere. Independence Beach, near the old Independence Hotel, is smaller and less crowded.
