Shaoguan's two unmissable attractions — Danxiashan and Nanhua Temple — are both outside the city itself, requiring day trips by bus. The Nanling National Forest Park, further afield, is for those who want serious hiking in primary forest. Within the city, the old streets and Hakka cultural heritage reward a half-day of wandering.
