Shaoguan sits at the northern edge of Guangdong, where the climate is noticeably cooler than the coast. Summers are hot but more bearable than the Pearl River Delta, and the surrounding mountains stay green through the dry season. Autumn (October to November) and spring (March to April) are the best seasons for hiking and outdoor activity, with mild temperatures and good visibility on the mountain trails.
Winter can be cold by Guangdong standards, with occasional frost in the Nanling mountains, but Danxiashan and Nanhua Temple are accessible year-round. Spring brings heavy rainfall that can make the Nanling forest trails slippery. Summer is manageable for the main sights but hot for serious hiking.
